Auburn Region Family

Families in Auburn and nearby Lidcombe can find plenty of practical ways to play, learn and connect—from toy borrowing, playgroups and gymnastics to music classes and youth holiday activities. When extra help is needed, local options also include early-years health care, parenting programs, counselling and children’s allied health.

✨ Play, movement and early learning

PCYC Auburn

Based in Lidcombe and serving the Auburn area, PCYC Auburn runs sport and activity programs for several childhood stages. KinderGym caters for children aged 18 months to three years, JuniorGym is for ages four to five, and recreational gymnastics is available for school-aged children. Its school-holiday program is designed for ages 5–12 and requires advance booking. Families need to pack food and water and make sure children wear enclosed shoes. Check current sessions, fees and places directly with PCYC.

Sunny Corner Toy Library

Borrowing toys can add variety to play without families having to buy and store every item. This volunteer-run Auburn toy library offers educational and play resources intended to support children during their first six years. Members may borrow up to six items for two weeks. Annual membership and other fees apply, and children must be supervised while using the toys. Published opening times include Tuesday afternoons and Saturdays.

Australian Anatolian Community Services Play Group

Auburn residents with children under five can join this free Tuesday playgroup at the Susan Street community hall. Sessions combine planned indoor play with time in the outdoor playground, giving young children opportunities to explore while adults meet other local families. A parent or carer must stay throughout the session and remains responsible for supervising their child.

Grow @ Auburn Education & Care Centre

Cumberland City Council operates this Auburn education and care centre, which provides early learning and preschool pathways. Grow to Play supports children from birth to three years, while its preschool learning is intended to help children prepare for the transition to school. Families interested in the setting, program or enrolment process can contact the centre to enquire or arrange a tour.

🎨 Music, creativity and shared activities

Rumi School of the Arts

Children and adults can explore Middle Eastern and Islamic music traditions through weekend classes at this not-for-profit Auburn school. Beginners may request a free group trial before choosing a class. School-holiday creative programs broaden the experience with music, movement, art and storytelling. As class availability and suitability can vary, contact the school to find an appropriate option for your child.

The Salvation Army Auburn Corps Kids Program

This faith-based Sunday program welcomes babies, children and young people through to age 18 as part of Auburn Corps activities. Families should be comfortable with its Christian focus. Children’s and youth leaders hold Working with Children Checks and have completed Salvos Safeguard training. The Auburn site is also listed as wheelchair accessible.

🌟 School holidays and youth connection

Auburn Youth Centre School Holiday Program

Young people in Year 6 and high school—generally ages 12–21—can access free, supervised school-holiday activities through Auburn Youth Centre in Lidcombe. Programs include in-centre sessions and excursions for young people living in and around Cumberland. Free centre membership and registration are required. Excursion places may only be confirmed after booking, with priority given to disadvantaged young people. Families should review the timetable and participation requirements for each holiday period.

Auburn Youth Centre Youth Support and Counselling

For young people aged 12–24 and their families, the centre provides support from youth workers, social workers and an adolescent and family counsellor. Free counselling is available by appointment and may involve a young person individually, parents or a family group. Other opportunities include drop-in recreation, creative activities, study support and music, alongside information and referrals where further assistance is appropriate.

💛 Parenting, disability and early-intervention support

Auburn Diversity Services Inc. Families & Children Programs

ADSI supports families in Auburn, Auburn West, Berala and Regents Park through supported playgroups, parent groups, perinatal assistance and parenting-focused early-intervention activities. Its work has a particular focus on children aged 0–3, young parents, and culturally and linguistically diverse or newly arrived communities. During school terms, MyTime offers connection and support for parents and carers of children under 18 who have disability, developmental delay or a chronic medical condition. Confirm the current schedule before attending.

Sustaining NSW Families – Auburn/Parramatta/Holroyd

This free, voluntary NSW Health home-visiting program can begin during pregnancy or shortly after birth and continue until a child turns two. It is available to eligible families living in an area where the program operates. Access is through a referral from a maternity provider, doctor, or child and family health nurse rather than direct self-referral. The Auburn, Parramatta and Holroyd program coordinator is contacted through Auburn Community Health Centre.

🩺 Child development and family health

Auburn Community Health Centre – Child & Family Health

Families with children aged 0–5 can access free NSW child and family health services, including developmental checks, parenting support and referrals. Child and family health nursing and allied-health support, including audiometry, are delivered from Auburn Community Health Centre. No referral is required for child and family health services, although other community-health programs may have their own referral rules. The centre has wheelchair access.

JK Speech & Health

This Auburn multidisciplinary clinic provides child- and family-focused speech pathology, occupational therapy, behavioural therapy, psychology and physiotherapy. Families can book most services directly, although a referral is required when seeking some Medicare rebates. JK Speech & Health is an NDIS registered provider, and telehealth is offered for selected therapies. Discuss appointment availability, funding arrangements and any referral needs before booking.

📌 Before you book or attend

  • Check ages and eligibility: Programs range from baby and toddler sessions to services for young adults, and some have residency, school-year or other eligibility requirements.
  • Confirm the current timetable: School-holiday activities, term programs, trials and group sessions can change between periods.
  • Ask about access: Contact the provider about mobility, sensory, communication or participation needs before your first visit.
  • Clarify costs and funding: Check membership fees, session charges, rebates and NDIS arrangements directly, as these may differ by program or appointment.
  • Review supervision and booking rules: Some activities require an adult to remain, while others need registration, membership, a referral or confirmed booking.
